Our client is an established engineering consultancy operating within the maritime sector. They provide technical and consultancy services to a diverse range of customers across commercial and government-funded projects. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Business Development Manager to develop new client relationships, identify business opportunities and support the continued expansion of their consultancy services. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll play a key role in shaping the future growth of the business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong marine industry experience who enjoys developing relationships, identifying new markets and winning technically complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Growth
- Drive business development activities across the consultancy.
- Increase third-party consultancy work including:
- Design projects
- Technical support
- Engineering consultancy
- Develop opportunities for:
- Military vessel design (up to approximately 24m)
- Commercial vessel projects, including electric ferries (up to approximately 50m)
- Electric workboat design and associated boat sales through build partners.
- Client Development
- Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities.
- Build long-term relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of future opportunities.
- Marketing & Brand
- Lead the companies presence at:
- Trade shows
- Conferences
- Industry exhibitions
- Oversee the company's:
- Website
- Marketing activities
- Social media presence
- Bid & Proposal Management
- Manage and support the production of proposals and tender submissions.
- Introduce and maintain a customer relationship/opportunities database (CRM).
- Supervise and support the Business Development Administrator.
About You:
We're looking for someone who combines commercial awareness with strong technical credibility within the marine sector.
Essential Experience:
- At least 10 years' experience within the UK military and/or commercial marine industry
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline such as:
- Engineering
- Naval Architecture
- Or an equivalent technical qualification
- Strong technical understanding of:
- Military vessels
- Commercial craft
- Specialist marine projects
- Good knowledge of:
- The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD)
- Working with MOD procurement and customers
