A leading marine assurance and engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Marine Engineer - DP Assurance Consultant to join their growing Dynamic Positioning team in Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity for a former Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, Marine Superintendent, or experienced DP specialist to apply their operational knowledge in a shore-based technical role while remaining closely connected to the marine industry.
The Role
As a Senior Marine Engineer within the DP Assurance team, you will provide independent technical assurance to clients across offshore energy and marine sectors. You will support projects involving DP system assurance, vessel verification, risk assessment, and operational readiness, working with vessel owners, operators, and offshore stakeholders globally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Attending offshore vessels as an independent technical witness during DP trials
- Reviewing and developing DP Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) studies
- Reviewing and authoring DP proving trials programmes in line with industry guidance
- Assessing vessel DP capability, redundancy concepts, and operational risks
- Supporting marine risk assessments and SIMOPS evaluations
- Developing technical reports, procedures, and client deliverables
- Providing technical input during vessel projects, upgrades, and operational activities
- Representing clients during offshore and international assignments
About You
You will ideally have:
- A strong marine engineering background gained from offshore vessels
- Experience as a Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, or senior marine engineer
- Practical Dynamic Positioning experience
- Experience working with DP Class 2 or DP Class 3 vessels
- Knowledge of DP FMEA processes and proving trials
- Understanding of marine regulatory requirements, class rules, and industry standards
- Experience with IMCA guidance (M190/M191 knowledge desirable)
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills
