The Analyst will lead the maintenance and development of Fastmarkets’ cost models, overseeing data collection, model refinement and analytical outputs. They will support analytics products and consulting by providing the cost and economic foundations that underpin short‑ and long‑term market outlooks and forecasts, ensuring a coherent view of supply, capacity and cost drivers across key raw material value chains. The Analyst will also act as a key point of contact for internal and external enquiries related to industry costs, supporting sales engagement and client discussions with clear, defensible and decision‑ready analysis.
You will join a global team of researchers dedicated to analysing critical raw materials across multiple industrial and emerging end-use markets, spanning batteries, energy storage and other critical applications. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast‑paced, analytical environment, demonstrate a proactive, can‑do attitude and be comfortable supporting a broad range of tasks and projects concurrently.
Principal accountabilities- Maintain, develop and refine Fastmarkets’ cost models across critical raw materials and metals value chains, ensuring methodological consistency and analytical robustness.
- Lead the collection, validation and structuring of asset‑level cost, technical and operational data across mining, processing and refining activities.
- Populate and update proprietary cost modelling systems using bottom‑up, asset‑level methodologies, capturing capex, opex, logistics and key cost drivers.
- Analyse industry cost structures, benchmarking assets by deposit type, region, technology and development stage, and identify key drivers of cost competitiveness.
- Support the production of short‑, medium‑ and long‑term market outlooks and forecasts, ensuring cost assumptions align with supply, demand and capacity analysis.
- Provide analytical support to subscription products, consulting projects and bespoke client requests, translating complex cost data into clear, actionable intelligence and defensible insights.
- Act as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, including sales and product teams, responding to enquiries related to cost modelling and economic assumptions.
- Contribute data, analysis and commentary for client presentations, reports and industry events, supporting Fastmarkets’ external profile and thought leadership.
- Monitor market, technological, and policy and regulatory developments affecting cost structures across critical raw materials, incorporating relevant changes into models and analysis.
- Adhere to established quality control, documentation and version‑management processes, ensuring transparent, reproducible analytical outputs and timely updates for customers.
- Work with the Consulting team on projects by helping specify and design studies which deliver to client needs and supporting delivery.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS- Strong understanding of metals, mining and raw material value chains, including mining, processing, refining and downstream applications.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in cost analysis, asset economics, financial or techno‑economic modelling within metals and mining or related sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to build, maintain and interpret bottom‑up, asset‑level cost models using structured and defensible methodologies.
- Experience contributing to or shaping modelling frameworks, best practice and methodological documentation within a research or analytics organisation.
- Strong analytical capability, with experience deconstructing complex datasets by region, resource type, technology and processing routes and project development stage.
- Proficiency in Excel and analytical tools for modelling, data management and scenario analysis; familiarity with mining or industrial cost databases is an advantage.
- Ability to critically assess technical, academic and industry sources, including feasibility studies, company disclosures and regulatory documentation.
- Experience supporting market outlooks, forecasts or benchmarking analysis.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex cost and economic analysis into clear, client‑ready insights for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
