We are seeking a Mental Health Support staff member to provide early support for students experiencing emotional or mental health challenges. The role involves working closely with students, staff, and families to promote wellbeing, identify concerns, and ensure appropriate support and referrals are in place.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group mental health support for students
- Identify early signs of emotional distress, anxiety, or disengagement
- Support students with coping strategies, emotional regulation, and resilience
- Work with the Wellbeing Lead and safeguarding team to support vulnerable students
- Assist in developing and implementing individual support plans
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the provision
- Support staff in responding to student mental health concerns
- Liaise with parents/carers regarding student wellbeing where appropriate
- Refer students to external services when additional support is required
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of support provided
- Contribute to wellbeing activities and mental health awareness sessions
- Promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Essential Criteria
- Experience supporting children or young people
- Understanding of mental health and emotional well-being needs
- Ability to build positive relationships with students
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in a mental health, pastoral, or support role
- Knowledge of supporting students with anxiety, SEMH, or behavioural needs
- Experience working with SEN students
- Understanding of safeguarding and referral processes
- Experience working with parents and external services
