Overview

Based at our Precision Engineering Facility in Leeds, the Quality Inspector will be responsible for overseeing quality inspection activities and providing clear, constructive feedback to colleagues to ensure product conformity. You will be a key member of the Quality team collaborating closely with colleagues, particularly in Operations, to maintain effective quality controls, support continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a strong culture of quality across the organisation. This role is primarily hands-on and suited to an individual with strong knowledge of inspection techniques, excellent attention to detail, and a working knowledge of CMM inspection or the ability to learn it quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out a wide range of dimensional and visual inspections on precision-engineered components and assemblies.
  • Program, operate, and maintain CMM inspection routines.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical documentation accurately.
  • Use a variety of manual and automated measuring equipment, including verniers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, surface finish testers, CMMs, and vision systems.
  • Record inspection results clearly and accurately, maintaining inspection reports and quality records.
  • Identify non-conformances, support root cause investigations, and assist with corrective actions.
  • Work collaboratively with Production and Engineering to resolve quality issues and improve inspection methods.
  • Support internal and external audits when required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of inspection processes, techniques, and standards.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience within a precision engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional inspection techniques and best practices.
  • Experience programming and operating CMM inspection systems or a working knowledge of the basic principles.
  • Competent in the use of manual measuring equipment and advanced inspection tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and methodical working approach.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Formal qualifications or certifications in inspection, metrology, or quality engineering.
  • Methodical, reliable, and quality-focused.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to improve processes and develop skills further.
  • Respects colleagues and promotes a positive, professional working environment.
