Dr. Martens is a globally recognisable and culturally influential British brand, with over 60 years of rich heritage. As brand custodians, we are lucky to work for a dynamic, thriving, and ethical business, with people from diverse backgrounds, who bring their true selves to work, and where anyone can grow their career. We are guided by three core values that are at the heart of everything we do: be yourself, act courageously, and show you care.

Ever wondered how our famous boots are made? Here’s your chance to find out. We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic, hands‑on people to join us as the next generation of Dr. Martens shoemakers — no experience needed. As a Dr. Martens apprentice, you’ll be based at our Made in England Factory in Northamptonshire, learning the full footwear production process from start to finish. You’ll earn while you learn, picking up real skills with support from the experts around you. You’ll work in a fast‑paced, friendly environment where traditional craftsmanship meets modern manufacturing tech.

You’ll get experience in:

  • Cutting: Using cutting presses and digital leather‑scanning tech to cut materials accurately and minimise waste.
  • Closing: Sewing and shaping the uppers of our boots using a variety of machines.
  • Lasting: Shaping the boot and attaching the sole to our signature yellow‑stitched welt.
  • Finishing Room: Adding the finishing touches — lacing, cleaning and boxing everything up ready to go.

Once you’ve completed your apprenticeship, you’ll earn a government‑accredited Level 2 qualification in Footwear Manufacturing. There may also be an opportunity to stay on in the factory and continue to grow your craft, working alongside past apprentices. This programme lasts 15 months.

As our Footwear Production Apprentice, you’ll:

  • Start working hands‑on with our product from day one.
  • Become a Dr. Martens brand ambassador — learning our history and what makes our boots so iconic.
  • Help run the Apprenticeship Instagram account.
  • Learn more about how footwear is made, including leather tanning, inspection and quality control.
  • Create your own custom pair of DMs as your final project.

In line with UK health and safety legislation and our commitment to employee wellbeing, we conduct health surveillance for roles at our Made in England Factory (MIE). Health surveillance is a legal requirement where employees may be exposed to specific risks. It helps ensure early detection of work‑related ill health, supports vulnerable employees, and evaluates the effectiveness of control measures. As part of this process, we will carry out an initial health check at the offer stage (or within the first six weeks of employment) and continue with periodic health assessments thereafter.

WHAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT:

  • A willingness to learn and get stuck in.
  • A passion for the Dr. Martens brand.
  • Good focus and commitment to quality, even when tasks are repetitive.
  • Strong attention to detail and a target‑driven mindset.
  • GCSE English and Maths at Level 3/4 (Grade C) or above.

If you’re shortlisted, you’ll first have a chat with our Talent Acquisition team, followed by an assessment day at the factory in Northamptonshire. You’ll take a tour, complete four factory‑related tasks and have a short interview. Assessment days will be held on 16th and 18th of June.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • A free pair of DMs to welcome you.
  • 65% off all DMs.
  • 12pm finish every Friday.
