Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer at HDR ensures that building services systems are commissioned properly and in accordance with relevant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure commitments to clients are met on time and to required level of detail and quality.
  • Validate the mechanical commissioning process and ensure results align with requirements.
  • Inspect existing systems to determine performance.
  • Advise on mechanical commissioning and performance requirements, commissioning strategies, programs, scopes of work and related matters.
  • Carry out measurements, surveys and other technical inspections.
  • Collaborate with other members of the organization to improve existing systems and procedures.
  • Act as a champion in an area of particular technical interest.
  • Promote the company and the group through marketing activities.
  • Plan equipment required for testing.
  • Assist in preparation of tender documents.
  • Accurately complete timesheets on a weekly basis.
  • Proactively assist other staff in performance of their work.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Act safely at all times in accordance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Work diligently, efficiently and professionally at all times.
  • Ensure technical compliance and high quality production of outputs.
  • Work closely with main contractor’s team to develop commissioning strategies and processes that meet project objectives.
  • Fully adopt the company’s project and internal management systems.
  • Maintain awareness of project finances and control related expenditure.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Produce internal and client reports including technical, commercial and programmatic aspects.
  • Provide technical commentary on drawings, manuals and submissions.
  • Report awareness of project scope changes internally.
  • Work with other members of a professional team to assess progress, difficulties and costs.
  • Perform hands‑on commissioning work as required.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Willingness to travel to site-based locations as reasonably required.
  • Experienced engineer—licensed PE or field technician with excellent understanding of MEP systems, HVAC controls, the T&B process, etc.
  • Good computer skills and effective typing skills.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with organization of design documents, preparation of multidiscipline designs, and delivery of design & construction services.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, systems engineering, operations fundamentals, contracting, and general business operations.
  • Understanding of project accounting and financial management tools.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work; work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Commitment to active participation in an employee‑owned culture.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • BEng Mechanical Engineering with Building Services.
  • Considerable experience demonstrating project management skills.
  • Member of CIBSE, ASHRAE or equivalent professional qualifications an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a commissioning engineer role in a building‑oriented company (Data Centers, Commercial, Residential, Life Science or Health Care).
  • Experience working within company Quality & Environmental policies and procedures.
  • IT literate – MS Office package.
