Primary Objective

The primary objective of our Commissioning Managers is to ensure that the processes involved in the commissioning of engineering services systems are diligently and accurately planned, managed, executed and recorded.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure commitments to clients are delivered on time and at the requisite level of detail and quality.
  • Use the company’s management systems to achieve the primary objective.
  • Provide consultative advice on commissioning and performance requirements, commissioning strategies, programmes and scopes of work.
  • Proactively progress commissioning activities throughout the project cycle in conjunction with the General Contractor and Vendors.
  • Engage with other members of the company to improve existing systems and procedures.
  • Act as a Champion in a specific technical area and promote the company through marketing activities.
  • Act safely in compliance with the company’s health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Work diligently, efficiently and professionally at all times.
  • Ensure technical compliance and high quality production of deliverables.
  • Work closely as part of a client or General Contractor team to develop commissioning strategies and processes that align fully with project objectives.
  • Fully adopt the company’s project and internal management systems to ensure that the building services are fully commissioned in accordance with contract documentation.
  • Maintain awareness of project finances and control expenditure.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Prepare reports that include technical content and progress/key issue detail.
  • Develop project‑specific commissioning management/validation documents and procedures.
  • Comment technically on drawings, manuals and technical submittals.
  • Develop project‑specific method statements, test scripts and the like.
  • Be aware of and report internally on scope changes.
  • Work with other members of a professional team to evaluate progress, difficulties and costs.
  • Look ahead with a view to arranging test instrumentation required for testing.
  • Assist in the development of tender submissions.
  • Accurately complete timesheets on a weekly basis.
  • Pro‑actively support other staff in undertaking their work.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent is desirable.
  • Considerable experience demonstrating project management skills; membership of CIBSE, ASHRAE or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience within a Project Management or Commissioning Management function in a building services‑oriented business.
  • Experience working within company quality & environmental policies and procedures.
  • IT Literate – proficient with MS Office package.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as determined by business needs.
  • Communicates confidently, fluently and logically, holding others’ attention when speaking.
  • Ability to identify issues and plan ahead; meet deadlines; respond to tasks within a timescale; display attention to detail so that all systems, procedures and paperwork are factual and correctly presented.
  • Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience dealing with mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines.
  • Proven ability to lead commissioning efforts from design through project completion.
  • Passion for sustainability and knowledge of the commissioning process; experience with design, installation and operation of building systems (including HVAC, electrical, mechanical and controls).
  • Willingness to travel to site‑based locations as reasonably required by HDR.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot HVAC, TAB and controls and excellent report‑writing skills.
  • Solid understanding of operational requirements, safety requirements, code inspections and maintenance considerations.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and time‑management skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Technical knowledge of MEP systems and HVAC expertise.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Multitasking ability.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture.
