The Audio Visual (AV) Assistant is responsible for providing technical support for the setup, operation, and maintenance of AV equipment for meetings, conferences, presentations, and events. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve AV issues in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Setup & Operation
- Assist with the setup, operation, and breakdown of AV equipment (screens, microphones, sound systems, lighting, etc.) for events and meetings.
- Ensure proper connection of all AV components, including video and audio sources, displays, and amplification systems.
- Test AV equipment thoroughly before events to ensure everything works as intended (sound checks, video playback, etc.).
- Troubleshooting
- Identify and resolve any technical issues that may arise during an event.
- Provide on-the-spot troubleshooting and immediate fixes for sound, video, or lighting problems.
- Maintenance & Inventory
- Regularly inspect and maintain AV equipment to ensure functionality and cleanliness.
- Keep an accurate inventory of AV equipment and accessories.
- Report any technical issues or necessary repairs to the AV Manager.
- Support
- Provide technical support to presenters, event organisers, and staff.
- Assist in training staff and users on basic operation of AV equipment as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure AV needs are met for events.
- Documentation
- Maintain records of equipment setups, configurations, and technical issues.
- Assist with AV-related documentation, including equipment manuals, procedures, and setup guides.
Skills and Experience
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency with AV equipment, including screens, microphones, cameras, sound systems, video conferencing tools, and lighting.
- Familiarity with AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron) and video conferencing platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams & Zoom).
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to AV equipment.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft 365 systems.
- Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure, especially during live events.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move heavy AV equipment (up to 20 KG).
- Comfortable with standing, bending, and walking for extended periods of time.
Education and Qualifications
- Qualified to GCSE standard, grade C/ level 4 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics essential.
- Previous experience in an AV role, technical support, or event production is preferred.
- Familiarity with AV systems in a corporate or event setting is beneficial.
Special Aspects
- The AV team are operational from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday. It is essential to be committed, flexible and prepared to work within these hours and beyond your normal contractual working hours when necessary and in response to client demand.
- A weekly shift rota will apply to your role and be notified to you in advance at the beginning of each month.
