Well-regarded commercial law firm in the City is seeking a newly-qualified Solicitor to join their market-leading contentious Tax team in London. The successful candidate will join a large, specialist contentious tax practice, advising on complex, high-value disputes and investigations.

Dispute Lifecycle Exposure:
- HMRC investigations
- settlement negotiations
- litigation before the Tax Tribunals and Higher Courts
- tax professional negligence disputes
The role offers a strong platform to develop technical expertise, litigation skills and meaningful client relationships early in your career. Over time, obtaining a formal professional qualification in tax, such as ATT, will be expected and supported.
Responsibilities:
- assisting on disputes and investigations involving HMRC, including civil and criminal enquiries;
- supporting litigation before the First-tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal, High Court and appellate courts;
- drafting legal documents including statements of case, witness statements, advice notes and correspondence;
- conducting legal and technical research on complex UK and cross-border tax issues;
- supporting clients through disclosures, enquiries, and settlement negotiations;
- assisting on judicial review claims and tax-related professional negligence disputes;
- preparing bundles, evidence and briefing materials for hearings and mediations;
- liaising with clients, barristers, experts and external advisers;
- supporting business development initiatives, including articles, client briefings and events.
This role will involve hands-on responsibility from an early stage, working as part of a collaborative and high-performing team.
Experience and Knowledge:
- qualified solicitor in England & Wales (NQ level);
- completion of a training seat in tax disputes, or alternatively seats in both tax and in dispute resolution;
- strong academic background;
- excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills;
- a genuine interest in contentious tax and dispute resolution;
- strong attention to detail and organisational skills;
- ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
