Due to an increase in workload, we are seeking a Civil Engineering Estimator to join our busy and expanding Civil Engineering Pre-Contract department. The department is responsible for managing the bidding process for targeted contract opportunities with our key clients and in recent months has successfully secured major contracts across the UK and Ireland.

The Pre-Contract department is busy and fast moving, and our success is based on a mutually supportive environment with an active focus on training and personal development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the timely preparation of independent estimates for major civil projects (roads & bridges, renewables, water, marine) as well as a range of data analysis and cost engineering services. The role will involve engagement with clients, project teams and our supply chain partners.

This role sits within our dedicated Civil Engineering Pre-Contract team which includes professional bid managers, estimators and writers. The successful candidate will work with their colleagues to prepare cost proposals that maximise our chances of success on projects that typically range from £10m to in excess of £50m.

Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate with bid management team to develop a schedule of key dates for individual estimates (enquiries, pricing, adjudication)
  • Examine tender documentation for completeness.
  • Review conditions of contract for changes.
  • Prepare and issue enquiry documents to providers of materials and sub-contractors for the scope of work.
  • Attend pre-construction and construction site visits.
  • Extract Bill of Quantities from tender package to Estimating Software.
  • Develop Bill of Quantities from drawings or tenders without this documentation.
  • Source and price all items detailed in the Bill of Quantities.
  • Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and when necessary communicate with suppliers/sub-contractors to bring quotations in line with the project specification.
  • Price all temporary works as required.
  • Liaise with Design team or other business functions to ensure completeness.
  • Organise and price contractor’s preliminaries for individual projects.
  • Lead Tender Adjudication through developing, completing relevant reports and presentations.
  • Complete tender documents for submission in conjunction with Line Manager, ensuring that all requested information is submitted.
  • Organise the delivery of completed tender documents in accordance with client deadlines and instructions.
  • Ensure completed tenders are filed and recoverable.
  • Ensure that the result of each tender is reported to your Line Manager and Procurement Director.
Qualifications
  • Honours degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or other related discipline.
  • Applicants with HND/HNC in similar discipline will be considered provided they can demonstrate a proven track record in Estimating within Civil Engineering sector.
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering construction, with site experience or established civils estimator with 5+ years.
  • Knowledge of construction and engineering within the UK/ROI.
  • Proficiency with working with Estimating Software (Conquest/Candy).
  • Skilled and experienced at estimating, pricing works and cost management.
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Full Driving License.
  • Strong numerical/mathematical and data analysis skills.
  • Accurate and consistent approach.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to engage with clients at all levels.
