We are seeking an experienced and reliable Skilled Operative to join our civil engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality site works, ensuring safety standards are met, and supporting the smooth delivery of projects across all sections.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a wide range of site tasks including groundworks, concreting, drainage, kerbing, paving, and reinstatement.
  • Operate small plant and machinery (e.g., rollers, dumpers, breakers) in line with training and certification.
  • Assist with the installation of services and utilities.
  • Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
  • Comply with site safety rules, RAMS, and company procedures.
  • Carry out quality checks and maintain high standards of workmanship.
  • Support colleagues and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Maintain tools, plant, and equipment in good working order.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Skilled Operative in civil engineering, construction, or highways.
  • Competent in a variety of groundworks and reinstatement techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow site drawings and instructions.
  • Strong awareness of health & safety on site.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.

Desirable but not always essential

  • CSCS card (essential).
  • CPCS / NPORS plant tickets (e.g., Dumper, Roller, 360 Excavator).
  • Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation.
  • Full UK driving licence.
