As a Design Manager with Farrans you will be responsible for the successful delivery of our Construction transformation airport project. You will manage all aspects of delivery of the design from PCSA stage to contract award through to completion, ensuring that the design is delivered on programme, has been reviewed by the team, has gained client approval and subsequently answers queries and resolves challenges during the construction phase. You will also assist in preparing for completion by managing the handover process.
Responsibilities
- Managing the development of the design from contract award through to completion
- Providing clear direction to designers for all information and monitoring progress
- Managing designs to ensure they are coordinated and approved in advance of the construction programme
- Working with the Buying Team to ensure packages are procured on time
- Reviewing all design information to ensure compliance, buildability, financial viability, and temporary works
- Contributing to the management of risk & opportunity and value engineering
- Resolving technical problems and design issues that emerge and sharing solutions with the wider team
- Actively working to minimise risk to the contractor from potential defects, hazards and non‑compliance; advising on protocol and procedures for formalised workflows for formatted information
- Implementing BIM as required by the project / assisting the BIM Manager
- Supporting the client in their duties under CDM regulations and their obligations in the development of a design
- Reviewing and coordinating design and technical related issues with the Commercial and Operations teams
- Ensuring that all aspects of the building design are fully coordinated, including but not limited to fire safety, structures, M&E, façades, internal specification, service strategies, maintenance strategies, etc.
- Completing competency assessment for designers / principal designers to comply with the Building Safety Act
- Managing input from the Building Regulations principal designer to validate compliance with Building Regulations and the requirements of the Building Safety Act
- Managing and coordinating external consultants in their day‑to‑day duties related to design, coordination and technical aspects of production
- Managing subcontractor design input and subcontractor fabrication drawing process
Qualifications
- Proven design management experience within the construction industry
- Prior experience within aviation and structural refurbishment
- Ability to collaborate across all project teams, such as Commercial, Operations and Procurement
- Contractual awareness and familiarity with common contract forms (NEC, JCT, etc.)
- Understanding of the building safety legislative framework, including the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations (dutyholder roles & competency requirements and the HRB Procedure Regulations)
- Advanced knowledge in the complete MS Office suite
- Proficiency in the use of document management systems such as Aconex
- Experience utilising BIM tools
- Analytical approach to work with an eye for detail
- Holder of a manual full UK driving licence
