Job Summary: In this role you will be working under a Distribution Systems Manager with over 28 years of experience at Farnell. You will collaborate with an extended team of technical analysts and provide onsite and remote desktop support to end users of physical, virtual and mobile computer platforms. You will install and configure technologies and applications on supported operating systems and platforms, provide support for peripheral devices (printers, scanners), and collaborate with other support teams to restore service and resolve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Handle end user requests for hardware and software for supported clients.
  • Troubleshoot technical computing problems and provide end user support for internal customer problem ticket resolution.
  • Update assigned problem tickets.
  • Escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Track and maintain site documentation, configurations, and maintenance.
  • Complete special assignments and project work as needed.
  • May contribute to desktop/laptop software evaluations and upgrades.
  • May interface with third party vendors to resolve hardware/software issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Thorough knowledge of principles, theories and concepts in the area of discipline. Competent in all job functions and has a general understanding of industry practices, techniques and standards.
  • Develops solutions for a variety of situations and works on projects requiring evaluation and analysis. Refers to policies, practices and precedents for guidance; determines best course of action to achieve results.
  • Work is performed independently and requires judgment and discretion. May receive limited guidance for new assignments. Work may be reviewed for overall adequacy.
  • Collaborates with management and team members within the department/function and other areas of the organization. May represent the department internally or externally.
  • Actions may impact the success of the department and/or the organization. Errors may cause delays or require additional resources to remedy.

What about you?

  • Several years of IT support or technical analyst experience, with exposure to distribution/warehouse environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and related supply chain applications.
  • Experience supporting hardware in distribution centres (RF scanners, label printers, handheld devices, conveyors, automation systems).
  • Hands-on experience with incident, problem, and change management.
  • Ability to resolve complex technical issues quickly in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with operations teams and stakeholders across the business.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred but not essential.
  • Relevant certifications a plus: ITIL Foundation, CompTIA A+/Network+, vendor-specific WMS or ERP training.
