Melford Estate, a historic Suffolk estate owned by the Hyde Parker family since 1786, is seeking to appoint a Farm Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of its farming enterprise. Located near Sudbury, Suffolk, the Estate extends to approximately 932 hectares, combining productive arable farming, woodland, stewardship land and diversified rural enterprises. The role offers the opportunity to manage a well-equipped farming operation within a respected and long-established estate environment.
This is a hands-on Farm Manager position requiring practical farming capability alongside strong organisational and leadership skills. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the Estate’s in-hand farming operations
- Leading and supporting field operations including drilling, spraying, cultivations and harvest
- Machinery operation and maintenance
- Crop planning and agronomy coordination
- Record keeping, compliance and farm administration
- Supporting the Estate’s stewardship and environmental objectives
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable on machinery, in the field and working closely with Estate ownership and advisers. The Estate benefits from modern machinery as well as on-farm grain storage.
