Earth Sky Time is a creative community of farmers, cooks, bakers, artists, musicians and friends on a 200 acre farm in the foothills of southern Vermont. We grow certified organic vegetables, and operate a sawmill, wood-fired bakery, commercial kitchen, farm-store and café. We also strive to create art, and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings! We offer farming, baking, construction, and culinary opportunities - these all provide hands‑on training and meaningful responsibilities in a supportive, funky community. We welcome creative, hard‑working folks to live, learn, and work with us as we steward the land, share skills, feed our neighbors and have fun. We have immediate openings as well as opportunities for the upcoming growing season. Get in touch and we can start a conversation to see if it’s a great fit!
- Field / Greenhouse / Washpack Managers & Farm Crew: We raise veggies, herbs, flowers, and fruit, plus a ¼ acre of high tunnel greenhouses (tomatoes in the summer and cold hardy greens all winter long). As a year‑round farm, we’ve got a lot to do, from greenhouse work to transplanting, cultivating, mulching, scouting, pruning, harvesting, cover cropping, and maintaining greenhouses and equipment. The farm crew keeps the farm store stocked with produce and coordinates harvests for the commercial kitchen and farmers markets. In addition to general farm crew members, we are looking for more experienced field and wash/pack managers.
- Bakers: Our bakery crew is trained in the entire process of crafting naturally leavened artisan bread. We maintain starter cultures, mix, fold, shape, bake and pack/deliver our production of thousands of loaves every week (plus croissants). Our process relies on extremely slow fermentation, which creates beautiful structure, flavour and keeping quality and allows our bakers to sleep at night. Bakers go through mixing and shaping rotations and have opportunities to develop oven skills on our 40,000 lb rotating hearth wood‑fired Llopis oven.
- Kitchen Magicians: Our vegetarian commercial kitchen creates inspired homegrown food for local celebrations and our on‑farm concerts. We also operate the Earth Sky Time Bread Bus, our one of a kind wood‑fired pizza oven built into a double‑decker bus. Additionally, we produce VT Goldburgers (carrot‑curry veggie burgers), Hoomoos Za’atar (hummus) and various seasonal pestos and ferments.
- Forestry / Sawmill & Timber‑frame Crew: We practice sustainable forestry on our woodland to supply our wood‑fired bakery, sawmill, and timber framing operations. We are always looking for folks interested in developing skills in logging, milling and natural building.
- Shopkeeper / Barista: We're proud of our beautiful new farm store/cafe and are looking for folks with an eye for aesthetics, organization, and coffee. Customer service and barista skills are a plus but not necessary. All positions are offered with (or without) on‑farm accommodations and bountiful vegetarian food. We also welcome the crew to take advantage of our ceramic, woodworking, metalworking, and music studios. We are looking for a 6‑month commitment but are open to other scenarios. We attempt to match folks’ responsibilities with their interests, and we often create hybrid positions incorporating other aspects of our business, including farmers markets, deliveries, and event production.
Compensation: This position is hourly, $15-20/hr.
