We are looking to recruit a Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice at our Blairlinn (Cumbernauld) Distribution Centre. We offer a permanent full time position working shifts between the hours of 08:00am - 16:30pm, Mon-Fri each week (with occasional weekend work included).

Pay, working hours & benefits:

  • We offer a competitive hourly pay rate which will increase each year on the programme and you will be guaranteed a minimum of 40 hours work per week.
  • Mec 1 - £7.55 per hour (First year / 16 & 17 year olds)
  • Mec 2 - £10.00 per hour (Second year / 18 to 20 year olds in place for 2 years)
  • Mec 3 - £12.21 per hour (Third year)
  • Mec 4 - £15.00 per hour (Fourth year)
  • Fully qualified after fourth year - £21.74 per hour

The Apprenticeship:

As a HGV Technician Apprentice, you will receive practical training and instruction whilst assisting our workshop staff in the day-to-day running of the workshop, and will work towards the provision of a well-maintained internal vehicle fleet. You will learn about servicing, inspections, fault finding, diagnostic work and the removal, repair and replacement of components and technology in our workshops. The apprenticeship will last a total of four years. You will spend three years completing an HGV Technician course and upon successful completion will gain an S/NVQ level three qualification. You will be required to attend college on a block release basis, as part of the course and will spend the remainder of your time gaining practical skills in our workshops. The fourth year of your apprenticeship will be spent working full time in our workshop gaining valuable experience. Your development will be ongoing during the apprenticeship and could lead to specialised training and qualifications in the following areas: fridge technician, f-gas handling and tail lift inspection.
