Farm Wilder Regenerative Farming Adviser

Farm Wilder is a social enterprise working with regenerative beef and sheep farmers who manage some of the South West's most wildlife-rich farmland.

We support farmers through regenerative farm planning, environmental certification and premium markets for their produce.

Today we work with around 40 farms and are expanding our farmer network in partnership with Ethical Butcher and Rare & Pasture.

To help farmers develop resilient, nature-rich farming businesses, we run workshops, discussion groups and farm walks covering topics from grazing management and soil health to meadow restoration, agroforestry and business planning.

We also develop innovative approaches to ecological monitoring and regenerative certification.

The successful applicant will work closely with farmers across our growing network, helping them develop profitable, ecologically resilient farming businesses through practical advice, Farm Regenerative Plans and grant-funded projects.

As the organisation grows, you'll also have opportunities to contribute to research, develop new projects and help shape Farm Wilder's approach to regenerative farming.

Main Purpose of the Job

This is a flexible role combining home working, office working and regular farm visits across Devon and the surrounding counties.

Working closely with the Farm Wilder Director, you will develop Farm Regenerative Plans, deliver grant-funded projects and provide practical advice that helps farmers build ecologically healthy and financially resilient farming systems in line with Farm Wilder and Ethical Butcher's regenerative standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high quality Farm Regenerative Plans for livestock farms, integrating profitable grazing systems with habitat restoration, biodiversity enhancement and long-term business resilience.
• Build trusted relationships with farmers, providing practical one-to-one advice on regenerative grazing, pasture management, soil health, habitat management, woodland and agroforestry, and whole-farm ecological planning.
• Support farmers to understand and access environmental funding opportunities, including agri-environment schemes and other public and private funding where appropriate.
• Deliver grant-funded projects across Devon and surrounding areas, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and achieve agreed outcomes.
• Plan and deliver farmer workshops, discussion groups and field visits and knowledge exchange events, working with external specialists where appropriate.
• Support the growth of the Farm Wilder farmer network by engaging prospective farmers and guiding them through the onboarding and certification process.
• Maintain accurate records, mapping and project documentation, and contribute to funding reports, monitoring and evaluation.
• Occasionally represent Farm Wilder at meetings, conferences, farm events and partner organisations, acting as an ambassador for regenerative farming and nature recovery.
• Where appropriate, contribute to the ongoing development of Farm Wilder's advisory services, standards and resources, helping shape innovative approaches to regenerative agriculture

Person Specification

This role requires someone who is comfortable discussing both livestock production and farm profitability, and habitat restoration and biodiversity, and who enjoys bringing these disciplines together in practical farming systems.

Essential

• A genuine enthusiasm for working with livestock farmers and helping them build profitable, wildlife-rich farming businesses.
• At least three years’ experience working with livestock farming, either as a farmer, farm adviser or in a closely related role.
• A strong understanding of regenerative livestock farming systems, including grazing management, soil health, pasture management and the relationship between farming and ecological processes.
• A good understanding of UK farmland habitats, their management and the principles of biodiversity conservation and restoration.
• The ability to integrate ecological objectives with practical, profitable farming systems.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work confidently and credibly with farmers.
• Experience of preparing written reports and farm management plans.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the South West.

Desirable

• Good mapping and IT skills (e. g. GIS, digital mapping or similar).
• Experience of delivering agri-environment advice or environmental land management projects.
• Knowledge of Environmental Land Management schemes and wider agricultural policy.
• Experience of organising workshops, discussion groups or farmer knowledge exchange events.
• Experience of habitat surveying or ecological assessment.
• BASIS, FACTS or other relevant agricultural or environmental qualifications.
• Experience of working with grant-funded projects.

• £40,000 – 45,000 FTE depending on experience.
• 4-5 days/week
• 1 year contract, with potential for renewal
• Flexible remote working and office based, with at least 2 days/week at Farm Wilder office near Moretonhampstead, Devon
• One month notice period
• Three months probationary period
• Travel expenses
• Car travel may be reclaimed at 55p for the first 7,500 miles in any one year and 30p per mile thereafter
