THE ROLE

As a Payments Specialist, you will be a vital part of our Fintech Operations team, reporting directly to the Payments Commercial Lead.

Your mission will be to enhance the performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of our entire payments ecosystem. This is a hands-on role focused on driving high-impact projects, from optimising cost structures to improving reconciliation controls. You will work at the intersection of Finance, Product, and Technology, leveraging deep data analysis and project management skills to deliver initiatives that directly reduce our P&L costs and strengthen our operational backbone.

WHAT YOU\’LL DO

  • Lead Cost Optimisation Initiatives: Proactively analyse our payment processing costs (e.g., interchange, scheme fees, non-transactional costs) to identify and execute on savings opportunities. You will own these projects from business case to implementation, including supporting commercial negotiations.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Spearhead projects to enhance and automate our payment reconciliation and settlement workflows. Your goal is to increase accuracy, improve timelines, and design controls that minimise financial leakage.
  • Manage Key Projects: Act as the project manager for critical payments initiatives. You will collaborate closely with Product and Tech teams to define requirements, manage timelines, and ensure the successful delivery of new payment methods, provider integrations, and system enhancements.
  • Deliver Data-Driven Insights: Develop and own a suite of operational dashboards and KPIs using tools like Looker. You will monitor key metrics, such as cost per transaction and reconciliation break rates, to inform strategic decisions and identify emerging trends.
  • Strengthen Financial & Reconciliation Controls: Design, implement, and monitor robust controls within the payment lifecycle. You will be the go-to expert for investigating and resolving complex payment discrepancies and ensuring our processes are audit-proof.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Serve as a key partner to Product, Engineering, and Data teams, providing expert operational input to shape the future of our payment platform and ensure that cost and efficiency are considered in all new developments.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Bachelor\’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in business analytics and/or project and cost management, preferably in fintech, e-commerce, or payments.
  • Experience managing projects with cross-functional teams, taking an idea from analysis and business casing through to successful implementation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, with advanced functions and financial modelling capabilities.
  • Knowledge of SQL for managing and analysing financial datasets (e.g., SQL Server, BigQuery).
  • Hands-on experience with data visualisation tools such as Looker or Tableau.
  • Skilled in forecast analysis and business casing to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Familiarity with payment processes and reconciliation workflows is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive, organised and able to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
