We are a full service in-house Legal, Ethics and Compliance function, providing advice on strategic projects across all business areas, whilst developing our role as an integrated partner within the business.

THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Data Privacy Officer to join the Legal, Ethics and Compliance team. This role will be ideal for a seasoned lawyer who wants to develop their career in a fast-paced, tech-oriented company, and is passionate about technology and privacy matters worldwide. Reporting to Farfetch\’s VP Legal, you will lead our data privacy function in Portugal. This leadership role will be responsible for overseeing data protection strategies and their implementation globally, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, as well as mitigate risks. The DPO, supported by a more junior data privacy lawyer, will work closely with all departments to handle data privacy matters affecting Farfetch globally, and promote a culture of data privacy and security. The ideal candidate will be an EU-jurisdiction qualified lawyer with a deep understanding of EU data privacy laws, including enforcement, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.
WHAT YOU\’LL DO

  • Lead and manage the data privacy team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide strategic and business-oriented legal advice to senior management, including the Executive team, on a wide range of data privacy issues.
  • Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of complex commercial contracts and agreements, with a focus on those related to data protection.
  • Provide specialist data protection advice to the Corp Dev. team on transactions such as mergers and acquisitions.
  • Develop, implement and maintain legal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze legal and regulatory developments, particularly regarding data privacy, that may impact the company\’s business. Maintain registers for applicable legal requirements across Farfetch\’s global operations. Collaborate with other departments to identify and mitigate legal risks concerning data privacy.
  • Design and deploy relevant trainings (including targeted trainings for specific business functions) with the team.
  • Oversee, review and approve (along with team) requests for new/changed data processing activities.
  • Maintain records of data processing activities and ensure transparency in data handling practices.
  • Investigate and respond to data breaches and incidents in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Act as the key point of contact for data subjects and data protection authorities.
  • Collaborate with IT and security teams to implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data.
  • Develop and Implement monitoring mechanisms to audit data processing activities to ensure compliance with data protection policies. Ensure identified weaknesses are remediated in a timely manner through collaboration with teams across business.
  • Be a key player in the Global Legal team, with active participation in the Legal leadership forums, and being a champion in the embodiment of Farfetch values and leading by example.

WHO YOU ARE

  • A senior-qualified lawyer with at least 10 years PQE (professional experience after internship).
  • Admitted to an EU-based Bar Association.
  • Deep knowledge of GDPR and related legislation in the EU. Knowledge of other relevant privacy laws like UK GDPR or CCPA or LGPD is a plus.
  • Experience in team management and leadership.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, both in Portuguese and English.
  • Ability to think strategically and provide sound legal advice in a fast-paced consumer-led business.
  • Have a commercial mindset, with strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Have a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in an international environment and in cross-border transactions is a plus.
