Role Overview
We are looking for a Class 2 HGV Driver to make daily collections from our food partners in the Midlands region and deliver to warehouses across the West and East Midlands. This role is most suited to individuals with an aptitude for driving, excellent customer service skills, and a professional attitude, as you will be dealing directly with our customers as a representative of FareShare Midlands.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Supply Chain Team to collect surplus food from partners and deliver it to the appropriate regional centre.
- Provide excellent customer service to food partners in person and by phone, making a highly professional impression of the charity.
- Adhere to all laws, Road Transport Regulations and HGV Working Time directives.
- Support the Supply Chain Team by collecting stock and delivering it to Regional Centres on time, communicating ETAs and delays.
- Maintain records of collections and allocations, including paperwork and temperature readings for delivery.
- Identify barriers or opportunities and provide feedback on developments or challenges such as delays, maintenance concerns or instruction errors.
- Ensure deliveries follow the assigned route and order, are planned appropriately within the allotted timescale, and all delivery windows are met safely.
- Highlight and respond quickly to any anticipated delays or difficulties, using problem‑solving skills to mitigate unforeseen circumstances.
- Ensure the quality of the product delivered is accurate against notes, conduct detailed visual inspections, and flag any concerns or discrepancies before loading the vehicle.
- Strengthen existing relationships by providing a reliable and friendly service.
- Adhere to all health and safety and operational requirements at all times.
- Ensure the vehicle is properly maintained, serviced, and cleaned to a high standard.
Shift times: 6am to 3pm and occasionally 7am to 4pm. This position involves hand‑balling and lifting using provided equipment. Some work on Saturdays may be required with notice. Other duties may be requested to suit the charity’s needs.
Required Qualifications
- Class2 UK Driving Licence (no more than 3 points and at least 2years of prior experience).
- Valid CPC and digital tachograph card.
- Health and safety awareness.
- Customer service and communication skills.
- Positive and professional attitude.
- Ability to use a smartphone, including apps such as WhatsApp, Sat Nav and e‑mail.
- Good knowledge of the Midlands geography.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clean licence and more than 5years of HGV driving experience.
- Experience delivering chilled or frozen food.
