There is an exciting opportunity within the Fareham and Gosport Environmental Health Partnership for a Neighbour Liaison Officer to work between our Gosport & Fareham Offices. This post helps to resolve disputes between neighbours, for example, noise, dust, smell, smoke, light, vegetation, rubbish, pests etc. You will be knocking on doors, talking to customers and their neighbours to help them to informally resolve issues so that they can live peacefully together.
You will also be required to deal with environmental housing issues, investigating complaints and enforcing housing legislation, so you would need to develop an understanding of this area. You must also be able to deal with the full range of pollution issues in the first instance. The post holder will have to deal with issues that can be sensitive, contentious and/or complex; therefore, tact and diplomacy are essential. On occasions, you may have to serve notices to individuals and appear in court.
The successful applicant will need to have the ability to understand elements of Landlord/Tenant Housing Legislation and have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. You should be able to work on your own initiative, be flexible and able to adapt to changing work requirements whilst remaining calm, positive and cheerful. You will be part of a rota to work outside of office hours including evenings and weekends to deal with neighbour issues, for which additional payments are made. Experience in dealing with conflict resolution and/or mediation is essential along with a valid UK Driving Licence.
