We are looking for an Operations Supervisor (Waste) to support the safe, reliable and effective delivery of the Council’s in‑house waste and recycling services. This is a key frontline leadership role, responsible for supervising waste collection crews and ensuring daily services are delivered to a high standard across the borough. You will take ownership of operational planning, resource deployment and problem‑solving, responding swiftly to service disruption while maintaining a strong focus on health and safety, performance and customer experience.

Alongside day‑to‑day operational delivery, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the service, identifying risks, reviewing performance and supporting service improvements that strengthen resilience, efficiency and reliability. The role is predominantly operational and will involve early starts, outdoor working and regular on‑site presence. You will also work closely with colleagues across Streetscene, Fleet, and Business Support.

You will be an experienced and practical supervisor, confident leading people in a busy operational environment and committed to delivering high‑quality public services. You will have experience of supervising frontline operational teams, ideally within waste, environmental or similar services, and be comfortable setting clear standards around performance, attendance, behaviour and health and safety. You will have the confidence to challenge where required, while also supporting and developing staff.

You will be well organised, resilient and able to prioritise effectively in a fast‑moving environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will engage with residents, councillors and colleagues, including in difficult or sensitive situations. You will also be able to use IT systems to monitor performance and support service delivery. A full driving licence is required. An HGV licence is desirable, or a willingness to work towards one, where appropriate.

Fareham Borough Council provides a wide range of essential public services that support our communities and local environment. Our in‑house waste and recycling service plays a vital role in keeping the borough clean, safe and sustainable, and we are committed to continuous improvement, strong teamwork and excellent customer service. Fareham Borough Council is a great place to work, and you would be joining an organisation that has a real family feel to it. We take pride in receiving feedback from others who say we are a friendly and professional organisation. We aim to attract, develop and retain the very best people.
