General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an opportunity for a Senior Wordings Specialist in our International Property.
- Review and analyse proposed contract wordings to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and standards, as well as clarity, consistency, completeness and legal effectiveness.
- Draft amendments, clauses and bespoke wordings as required, providing practical, commercially focused solutions.
- Explain complex wording issues clearly and effectively to underwriters, client managers and claims professionals, including translating technical legal concepts into accessible business language.
- Identify emerging risks and market developments, helping to shape the evolution of our wording strategy and standards.
- Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops and briefing materials to share knowledge and promote best practice across the business and with external stakeholders.
- Represent the company in industry forums and trade associations, contributing to the development of market-standard wording solutions.
- Participate actively in peer reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Deputise for the Head of Wordings, International Property.
A strong academic record, including a minimum upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent). For German-qualified candidates, qualification as a Volljurist with a Prädikatsexamen is preferred.
Significant experience in Property:
- Demonstrated expertise in drafting and negotiating complex (re)insurance contracts and advising on sophisticated coverage and wording issues.
- Experience working with international reinsurance business and cross-border contractual arrangements would be advantageous.
Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours:
- Strong knowledge of contract law and insurance contract law.
- Exceptional drafting skills, with the ability to produce clear, precise and commercially effective contractual language.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, including the ability to illustrate the practical impact of wording choices through real-world examples and balanced analysis of alternative approaches.
- Strong analytical and research capabilities.
- Ability to balance attention to detail with pragmatic commercial judgement.
- Highly organised and responsive, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
- Collaborative, approachable and solution-oriented in style.
- Able to build credibility quickly and inspire trust and confidence amongst stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in an international environment spanning multiple jurisdictions, cultures and regulatory frameworks.
- Native-level English language skills; native-level German language skills would be a significant advantage.
