About the job
Role can be Hybrid or Remote Subject to Location. NEC Digital seeks a Front-end React Developer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining web applications utilising React and Next.js, with a focus on delivering secure solutions as cloud SaaS or on-premises as required. The role demands collaboration within a skilled cross-functional Scrum team to implement new features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure adherence to accessibility, performance, and test quality standards. SC clearance is mandatory for this position.
- Implement features that meet acceptance criteria using React and Next.js.
- Write production-ready code with automated tests, accessibility checks, performance profiling, and robust error and loading states.
- Perform code reviews and give clear, actionable feedback within Git workflows.
- Integrate REST APIs, manage state, ensure data integrity, and document changes for reuse.
- Build and maintain reusable components and front-end libraries aligned to the design system.
- Translate designs into accessible, performant UI and validate technical feasibility early.
- Collaborate with product, design, QA, and back end to deliver small, reversible increments.
- Contribute to architecture and front-end best practices.
- Track emerging web standards and tools and propose improvements.
Qualifications
Essential skills and experience:
- Professional, commercial front-end development experience.
- Strong React and TypeScript skills, including component composition, hooks, and disciplined use of static typing.
- Experience with modern form and validation libraries, for example React Hook Form, and good patterns for managing form state.
- Practical experience with Next.js routing, core SSR concepts, and deploying Next.js applications.
- Good working knowledge of test-driven development (TDD), including the red, green, refactor cycle, component and integration tests, effective use of test doubles and mocks, and fast, deterministic suites.
- Confident writing automated tests with Jest and React Testing Library.
- Strong understanding of accessibility, including semantic HTML, WCAG 2.2 AA, and working with the GOV.UK Design System.
- Experience consuming APIs and handling structured data, ideally with exposure to enterprise platforms or OData.
- Component libraries, experience with design systems and contributing components.
- Familiarity with data modelling concepts and relational basics.
- TanStack Query or similar data-fetching libraries.
- End-to-end testing with Cypress or Playwright.
- SnapLogic familiarity is helpful but not required.
- Storybook for UI documentation and visual reviews.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Visual Studio Code.
- Figma for design collaboration and handoff, Mural for collaborative workshops.
- Knowledge of web performance optimisation techniques.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
