As Fanatics Betting & Gaming propels Fanatics' mission to create the ultimate digital sports platform, the Staff Platform Engineer role stands at the forefront of this transformative journey. This role empowers our software engineering teams to deliver better than they ever have. Joining the OddsFactory Platform Team, you will work on fuelling real-time betting at massive scale; billions of simulations every day, while driving improvements in productivity, reliability and scalability across our platform.
Today, our .NET services run on Azure Service Fabric, and we are now tapping into Kubernetes to unlock our growth. This role will help lead that transition, shaping our platform foundations, standards and technologies as we move into the new chapter of FBG. We're looking for a seasoned backend engineer who operates confidently across infrastructure, automation, security, and reliability to drive platform excellence. If you're a builder who cares deeply about creating robust, scalable platforms that empower every engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Ideal candidates have built platform capabilities consumed by many teams, and not just operated them.
The work spans a wide range of high-impact challenges; from shaping multi-cloud architecture and networking strategies to improving CI/CD, developer workflows, and productivity tooling. We're seeking engineers who are energized by both deep system-level problems and the platform tooling that accelerates developer velocity. You'll help define the platform foundation that powers Fanatics Betting & Gaming's real-time trading technologies.
You Will:- Own core platform architecture across compute, networking, identity, and guardrails; delivered as code using Terraform.
- Architect, build, and maintain highly available, scalable cloud infrastructure that powers all OddsFactory engineering teams.
- Drive secure-by-default and Zero Trust principles across the platform (least privilege, workload identity/OIDC, policy-as-code, supply-chain hardening).
- Design and build CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling that streamline builds, deployments, and iteration speed.
- Enhance platform security and compliance through automation, best practices, and proactive risk reduction.
- Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automate the provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle of cloud environments.
- Foster a metrics-driven culture of operational excellence; mentoring engineers, sharing best practices, and improving documentation.
- Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure, performance, and scalability issues, ensuring system reliability and optimal performance as the platform grows.
- Stay current on emerging cloud, platform, and DevOps technologies; advocate for the right tools at the right time.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure platform stability for mission-critical trading systems.
- Occasionally travel for essential offsite meetings, special events, or collaborative team sessions.
- 5+ years of proven experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or related modern cloud infrastructure roles.
- 3-5+ Years of experience in software engineering - you write clean code and have experience engineering solutions to complex problem statements.
- Deep experience cloud-native infrastructure (Azure preferred).
- Experience building application platforms that leverage Service Fabric and/or Kubernetes.
- Experience leveraging Terraform to build and maintain infrastructure at scale.
- Programming/scripting experience (.NET, PowerShell preferred; Go and Python a plus).
- Experience with observability platforms (Datadog preferred) and incident response.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; thrives in close collaboration with engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Highly outcome-oriented, data-driven, and capable of balancing quality with productivity.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with distributed teams.
- Experience designing multi-AZ/region architectures and automated failover patterns.
- Defined and tested RTO/RPO expectations using DR drills, chaos engineering, and recovery runbooks.
- Hands-on experience with service mesh technologies (mTLS, traffic shaping, canary/blue-green patterns).
- Familiarity with advanced traffic routing, policy enforcement, and cross-cluster communication.
- Experience with modern packaging and deployment tooling (Helm, Kustomize).
- Exposure to GitOps workflows and environment templating (Argo CD a plus).
- Familiarity with workload identity (OIDC), least-privilege design, and Zero Trust concepts.
- Hands-on experience implementing secret management patterns (External Secrets, Azure Key Vault, AWS KMS).
- Experience applying policy-as-code (OPA, Gatekeeper, Kyverno) to enforce governance at scale.
- Exposure to high-scale, low-latency, or event-driven systems.
- Familiarity or previous experience within the sports betting industry or strong interest in sports.
