We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic team based in Adlington or Sunderland.

This permanent role involves managing large composite models, equipment interfaces, and top-level assemblies. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and procurement teams to ensure product designs meet safety, quality, and delivery standards. This is a key position for those with strong technical and leadership capabilities., * Lead design efforts using AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Inventor, and Tekla for site layouts, parts, assemblies, and technical documentation

  • Manage design standardisation, aiming for 80% reuse and 20% new designs

  • Oversee design team activities and co-ordinate third-party design work

  • Collaborate in client-facing meetings and lead minor study works

  • Conduct mechanical and structural model interface checks

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (BS, ISO, CE/UKCA, ATEX)

  • Support the Group Head of Design with KPIs on delivery, accuracy, and standardisation

  • Mentor junior designers and engineers, providing technical guidance

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering with a time-served apprenticeship

  • Experience in bulk material handling and heavy engineering design

  • Proficient in 3D drawing packages (Solid Edge, Inventor, AutoCAD) and knowledgeable in design/drawing standards

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, medium to heavy fabrication, and risk assessments

  • Experience in value engineering and continuous improvement processes

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to travel as needed
