Are you an experienced Social Worker based in the North West with a passion for fostering? We’re looking for a dedicated professional to join Family Care as an Independent Assessing Social Worker. This self‑employed role offers the flexibility of working from home and a highly rewarding rate of £2,300 per completed assessment.

You’ll play a vital role in supporting and guiding prospective foster carers through their assessment journey, and in presenting your findings to our Family Care Fostering Panel.

Role Overview

As an Independent Assessing Social Worker, you’ll be responsible for conducting detailed assessments of individuals and families who wish to become approved foster carers. Reporting to the Registered Manager, you will:

  • Carry out a minimum of eight home visits per assessment.
  • Meet with key references, including family members, birth children, and former partners, to gather a full picture of the applicant’s suitability.
  • Complete thorough assessments covering applicants’ skills, health and safety, finances, pets, and any specialist considerations.
  • Present your completed assessments to the Fostering Panel in Newcastle‑under‑Lyme, working closely with Family Care’s Supervising Social Workers to ensure a smooth handover once carers are approved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Comprehensive Assessments using the fostering competency‑based format to evaluate applicants’ readiness and suitability.
  • Present Assessments to Panel, clearly communicating findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain Accurate Documentation in line with statutory and agency requirements, upholding confidentiality at all times.
  • Plan and Communicate Effectively with applicants, referees, and agency staff, keeping management informed of any changes or challenges.
  • Meet Deadlines, completing assessments within agreed timeframes and notifying the Registered Manager of any delays.
  • Ensure Safety and Compliance by following all relevant policies, including health, safety, and data protection.

About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Full, clean driving licence and access to transport.
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
  • Proven experience completing fostering assessments (Form F).
