Role Description

The Nursery Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and smooth running of the nursery at Weston-Super-Mare in an on-site, full-time capacity.

This includes overseeing the delivery of high-quality, child-centered care and education, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safeguarding requirements, and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment for children and colleagues.

The role involves managing and supporting the nursery team through effective coaching, scheduling, supervision, and performance management, while fostering a positive, inclusive culture.

The Nursery Manager will work closely with families, handling enquiries, conducting show rounds, building strong relationships, and communicating children’s progress clearly and professionally.

Additional responsibilities include managing budgets, occupancy, and resources; implementing curriculum and learning frameworks; monitoring quality through observations and audits; and collaborating with senior leadership on continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including team supervision, coaching, and performance development.
  • Proven experience in an early years or nursery setting, with a solid understanding of child development and high-quality childcare practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, safeguarding procedures, health and safety standards, and early years curriculum frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with children, families, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Organizational and administrative skills, including planning, record-keeping, budgeting, and use of nursery management systems.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes wellbeing, belonging, and equal opportunities for all children and staff.
  • Relevant early years qualification (e. g., Level 3 or above in Early Years/Childcare or equivalent); management or leadership training is an advantage.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, and supporting wider group initiatives.
