About Family Adventures Group
Family Adventures Group runs multi-award-winning indoor play venues and a group of multi-award-winning day nurseries. Due to continued expansion, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Supervisor to support our nursery settings and wider group operations. This role is critical to ensuring our environments remain safe, compliant, functional, and welcoming for children, staff, and visitors at all times.
Job Purpose
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing all maintenance, facilities, and security-related activities across nursery settings within its region. This role supervises maintenance activities, standards, and outcomes — not people. The post holder does not have line‑management responsibility for staff and is not responsible for performance management or disciplinary processes. Any direction provided to colleagues or contractors is strictly task‑focused and related to maintenance and facilities operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and undertake daily general maintenance tasks, including painting, basic electrical works (e.g. replacing light bulbs), basic plumbing, and other routine maintenance activities.
- Act as the single point of contact for Nursery Managers regarding maintenance and facilities issues, prioritising work appropriately.
- Maintain accurate maintenance activity logs for each setting.
- Develop, manage, and monitor planned preventative maintenance schedules across all sites.
- Identify, plan, and manage refurbishment and improvement requirements for each setting.
- Inspect completed maintenance work to ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards are met.
- Coordinate and liaise with external contractors (including cleaning, waste, pest control, and security providers).
- Obtain quotations, oversee works, and sign off completed contractor works.
- Ensure contractors comply with contractual, health & safety, and safeguarding requirements.
Compliance, Health & Safety and Statutory Duties
- Ensure all statutory testing and inspections are completed, properly recorded, and access is coordinated (e.g. fire safety, electrical testing, water hygiene).
- Ensure appropriate method statements, risk assessments, COSHH documentation, PPE, and work equipment controls are in place for all activities.
- Support the implementation and ongoing compliance with statutory and legal requirements, including Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Hygiene, Electricity at Work Regulations, and local legislation.
- Identify maintenance risks and escalate critical issues promptly.
Environment and Presentation
- Ensure all settings are clean, tidy, safe, and welcoming at all times.
- Undertake external upkeep as required, including sweeping paths and courtyards, watering planters, and litter picking.
Administration and Reporting
- Order parts, materials, and appliances in line with company procedures.
- Provide regular updates on maintenance activity status.
- Prepare monthly refurbishment and maintenance budget reports.
- Maintain vehicle checks and logs, including weekly basic checks, cleaning, servicing, and repairs.
Scope of Supervision
- Supervision relates solely to maintenance activities, standards, and work quality.
- No responsibility for formal people management, appraisals, disciplinary action, or absence management.
- Task-based guidance may be provided to staff or contractors where required for maintenance delivery.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in maintenance, facilities, or operational environments.
- Strong understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance.
- Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage contractors and suppliers effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Relevant trade or technical qualification.
- Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH or NEBOSH).
Safeguarding & Compliance
Family Adventures Group is committed to safer recruitment. All offers of employment are subject to at least two satisfactory references and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
