Wind turbine technicians typically do the following:
Is responsible working with a team in the assembly, mechanical completion and QC of Wind Turbines for the electrical & mechanical parts.
- Inspect the exterior and physical integrity of wind turbine towers
- Climb wind turbine towers to inspect wind turbine equipment
- Test and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components and systems
- Replace worn or malfunctioning components
- Collect turbine data for testing or research and analysis
- Service underground transmission systems, wind field substations, or fiber optic sensing and control systems.
- Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures and set a positive example for others.
- Complete all required Safety planning and documentation
- Climb wind turbines daily and perform all activities required to assemble and mechanically complete wind turbines.
- Use standard hand signals and voice commands to guide crane operators in the lifting and assembly of wind turbine components
- Ensure that turbines and related installations are assembled safely, skillfully, efficiently and meet acceptable standards of quality.
- Perform tasks involving use of hands and tools such as torqueing/tensioning bolts and studs, assembling metal parts, building bolt cages, vibrating concrete, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing forms from concrete, and demolitions, cleanup, use of jackhammers, etc.
- Operate, maintain and trouble-shoot issues on power and hydraulic tooling.
- Make certain the assigned work progresses on schedule
- Interpret specifications, blueprints and installation manuals
- Recommends measures to improve production, equipment performance and quality of product and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of process.
