Overview

Falmouth University’s Games Academy invites applications for an Associate Lecturer position to contribute to our Computing and Game Development courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Academy offers multidisciplinary courses including Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Games Programming.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include delivering scheduled teaching sessions, providing one-to-one, small group and workshop support, primarily focusing on mathematical sessions, supervising Game Development teams, and guiding students through the game development process.

  • Troubleshooting students’ code and solving computing and mathematical problems
  • Supervising and assisting students with their game development work in the studio
  • Assisting programmers with individual practice projects, possibly including specialisms such as human‑computer interaction, graphics, A.I. or networking
  • Running workshops and tutorial sessions for mathematics
  • Assessing students’ projects

This role suits a current game development or computing professional, or a recent graduate of a Games Development or Computing programme, with experience of freelance or contract work, and an interest in delivering flexible, varied learning experiences.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Good understanding of the role of a Games Programmer
  • A good understanding of mathematics appropriate to the nature of the programmes
  • In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as C++ or Python
  • Confidence with implementation in Unreal and/or Unity Game Engines
  • Experience with low-level programming libraries such as SDL
  • Experience working on game projects or similar
  • Familiarity with Agile project management

This fixed‑term, part‑time, hourly paid position is based at our Penryn campus.
