- Massachusetts licensure as a social studies teacher, grades 5 – 8
- SEI Teacher Endorsement, preferred
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment, required
- Masters degree preferred
- Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of middle school social studies
- Demonstrated experience in successfully motivating students of varying ability levels, skills, and readiness
- Have familiarity with the current Massachusetts curriculum frameworks, specifically as they relate to the grade 7 and grade 8 curriculum
- Such other alternatives as the Superintendent may deem acceptable and appropriate
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Department Head, and in collaboration with department colleagues, develop curricular objectives and implementation strategies in alignment with the learning standards of the state curriculum frameworks.
- Under the direction of the Department Head and in collaboration with department colleagues, design, implement, and revise curricular units as well as develop a clear and consistent grading protocol for each course.
- Under the direction of the Department Head and in collaboration with department colleagues, develop daily and long-range plans for each course taught relating instruction to the needs of the students, curricular objectives, and state learning standards.
- Effectively advance excellence and equity in each class through instructional practices designed to meet the unique needs of students who are advanced, multilingual English language learners as well as the accommodations and modifications for students qualifying for a 504 plan or special education services.
- Implement a variety of instructional techniques to ensure student engagement, growth, and achievement.
- Develop effective relationships with students.
- Evaluate each student\’s progress in social studies skills, knowledge, and understanding.
- Develop and state a clear and consistent grading procedure for courses.
- Keep accurate the appropriate grading and attendance records.
- Using available media, routinely communicate with students, families, colleagues, counselors, and administrators regarding each student\’s individual progress.
- Effectively employ classroom management strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Attend professional meetings as required and scheduled.
- Serve on committees for curriculum revision and for the general operation of the school.
- Accept supervision and guidance from the Department Head and Principal.
- Continue to grow in the position through attendance at meetings, conferences, seminars, through readings in professional literature, and enrollment in college or university courses.
- Accept assignments in other areas for which they are trained or certified.
- Such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Principal, Department Head and/or Assistant Superintendent.
