We are seeking Specialist Study Skills Tutors to support the academic progress of students at both Falmouth University and University of Exeter (Cornwall campuses). This role involves providing study skills support to students with various and sometimes complex conditions including Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs).
As part of this role, you will offer one-to-one study skills support to a caseload of students, encouraging them to use and reflect upon a range of strategies and assistive technology tools with a view to promoting autonomy and independence. An important additional aspect of the work is efficient use of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems to communicate, book appointments and record sessions with students.
As well as experience in working professionally with adults or young people in a teaching role, you will have membership of a professional body and qualifications as recognised within the “DfE Mandatory Criteria” for specialist study skills tutors. We are particularly interested in hearing from study skills tutors who are qualified and experienced in supporting students with both autism and SpLDs, but we also welcome applications from tutors who are qualified and experienced in either area individually.
Qualifications and requirementsAll SpLD/ASC Study Skills Tutors must hold an undergraduate degree and a teaching qualification. ASC Study Skills Tutors must also have completed comprehensive training in adult autism (for example, The Optimum - Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non‑Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies).
- Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS)
- British Dyslexia Association (BDA)
- Professional Association of Specific Learning Difference Specialists in Higher Education (PASSHE), formerly known as (ADSHE)
- Dyslexia Guild (DG)
Please make it clear in your application whether you already hold the appropriate qualifications or are currently working towards them. You will be a confident and competent IT user with experience of using CRMs and applications such as Microsoft Office. You will also have a good knowledge of using and incorporating Assistive Technology within the study skills session.
This position is offered on a casual basis, but we are particularly interested in hearing from people who could offer a minimum of 10‑12 hours per week during term time. This role is campus‑based, but you may be required to work online with students when this is their preference.
The closing date for this position is Sunday 28 June 2026. Interviews will take place week commencing 20 July 2026. If you have any questions about this role before applying, please email NMHSupport@fxplus.ac.uk for an informal discussion.
Falmouth Exeter Plus welcomes and encourages job applications from people of all identities and backgrounds, particularly those under‑represented and/or marginalised, as it is important we have a diverse range of candidates to consider.
