We are seeking a proactive and reliable Maintenance Operative to join our Estates’ Maintenance Team. In this role, you will carry out a wide variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks across academic buildings, student accommodation, and the wider campus estate.
Reporting to the Estates Maintenance Supervisor, you will ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Tasks will include:
- General mechanical systems maintenance and checks (ventilation systems, plant rooms, extract, etc)
- Maintenance such as re-lamping, filter changes, flushing water outlets, and battery replacements
- Fault finding, defect investigation and basic technical assessments
- Supporting the Plant Technicians, Electricians and Plumbers in carrying out their maintenance tasks
- Contributing to risk assessments, toolbox talks and safe working practices
- Assisting with site operations, such as car park management, events support and weather-related duties
- Participating in an out-of-hours call-out rota
About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Practical experience of carrying out maintenance tasks in a variety of settings
- Knowledge of building maintenance principles and health & safety legislation
- Ability to use computerised maintenance systems (training will be provided if needed)
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork
- A flexible and proactive attitude, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
It would be desirable for the successful candidate to possess the following (however training can be provided):
- IPAF or PASMA certification
- Asbestos awareness training
- Working at height experience
This position is offered on a permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week contract working across Monday to Friday.
