We are looking for a BMS Engineer to join our Estates Service team and take ownership of the building management systems that support our Cornwall campuses. This is a specialist role focused on BMS, HVAC controls and plant optimisation across a varied university estate. Working with a wide range of systems and buildings, you'll be responsible for monitoring and optimising BMS performance, investigating faults, reviewing control strategies and helping shape future improvements across the estate. You'll work closely with Estates colleagues, contractors and university stakeholders and become a key technical contact for BMS-related matters.

This is an opportunity to develop long-term ownership of the systems you're responsible for. You'll build a detailed understanding of the estate and see the impact of your work through improved building performance, energy efficiency and user experience.

About You

This role will suit someone with a BMS, controls or HVAC background who wants to develop specialist expertise while making a real impact across a diverse estate. You'll enjoy fault finding, solving technical problems and using data and system knowledge to improve performance. You will be comfortable working independently across a large, varied site, with the confidence to challenge contractor delivery where required.

You will have:

  • A recognised technical qualification (minimum HNC or equivalent) in building services, controls, electrical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with building management systems in an operational or maintenance environment.
  • Good working knowledge of HVAC systems and control strategies.
  • Well-developed analytical, organisational, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office, and familiar with CAFM systems.

This post is offered on a permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours per week basis. Contact [email protected] with any questions about the vacancy or to request an informal discussion before applying. The closing date for the position is Tuesday 1 September 2026.
