Falmouth University’s Games Academy has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join its dynamic teaching team across our Computing and Game Development courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It's an exciting time to be joining us as we grow as a University as we continue to offer quality led, relevant courses for students. As well as our multidisciplinary Game Development courses, the Computing subject area includes courses in Robotics, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Games Programming.
The key duties of the role are primarily to deliver teaching material in our timetabled sessions and support the students in our various one-on-ones, small groups, and workshop contexts. Primarily the focus will be on supporting mathematical sessions. In addition, you may be supervising Game Development teams, and guiding them through the game development process.
Duties of the role also include:
- Troubleshooting students’ code and solving computing and mathematical problems
- Supervising and assisting students with their game development work in the studio
- Assisting programmers with individual practice projects, possibly including specialisms such as human-computer interaction, graphics, A.I. or networking
- Running workshops and tutorial sessions for mathematics
- Assessing students’ projects
This role would suit a current game development or computing professional, or a recent graduate of a Games Development or Computing programme, with experience of freelance or contract work, as the role offers a certain amount of flexibility/variety within those areas.
We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:
- Good understanding of the role of a Games Programmer
- A good understanding of mathematics appropriate to the nature of the programmes
- In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as C++ or Python
- Confidence with implementation in Unreal and/or Unity Game Engines
- Experience with low-level programming libraries such as SDL
- Experience working on game projects or similar
- Familiarity with Agile project management
This Associate Lecturer post will also assist with programming and maths tuition and to help students gain familiarity with specific games industry standard software tools. You will need to demonstrate skills with, or be able to quickly skill up on, the latest version of Unity and/or Unreal game engines as well as other relevant games industry software.
This is a fixed term, part-time, hourly paid position based at our Penryn campus.
