King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, Stanley, Falkland Islands (South Atlantic Ocean)
37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday (no on-call or out of hours work)
Fixed term contract between 2-4 years
Total package equivalent to £61,752 per annum

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) provides essential public services to a close-knit population of approximately 3,600 residents. Dental Services operate from the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, delivering comprehensive oral healthcare in line with UK standards. The modern dental facility includes three fully equipped surgeries, digital radiography (including OPG), and a supportive multidisciplinary team focused on community wellbeing, prevention, and professional excellence.
The Role
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Dental Therapist to play a key role in delivering both dental hygiene and dental therapy services within a supportive, forward-thinking dental team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine patients, assess oral health, plan treatments, and refer as required
- Prescribe and take dental radiographs
- Administer local anaesthetic
- Deliver periodontal care including scaling, debridement, and polishing
- Apply fissure sealants and topical fluoride treatments
- Undertake restorative procedures within GDC scope of practice
- Extract primary teeth and place pre-formed crowns
- Support orthodontic patients with tailored oral hygiene advice
- Lead and participate in community oral health promotion initiatives
- Maintain accurate patient records and manage appointments
- Mentor and support trainee dental nurses
- Ensure compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and clinical governance

The Ideal Candidate
You will be a confident, compassionate, and motivated Dental Therapist who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys delivering preventative and restorative care to a diverse patient group.
About you:
- A Degree in Dental Therapy (or recognised equivalent)
- Current registration with the UK General Dental Council (GDC)
- At least 3 years' relevant post-qualification experience, ideally within the NHS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent clinical governance and infection control knowledge
- Confidence working independently and as part of a small multidisciplinary team
- A passion for oral health education and health promotion
