Falkirk Youth Theatre (FYT) is run by Falkirk Council Arts team and exists to provide youth theatre activities in the Falkirk area. The group has a membership of 100 young people aged from 7 – 18 years. Throughout the year there are a range of opportunities offered to members including skills workshops, musical theatre performances and devised theatre, with young people split into different age groups.
Project Brief – Musical Director
We are seeking to engage an experienced Musical Director to work on the production of ‘Hades Town Teen Edition’ with our senior group (Age 11-18). This is a freelance position for someone with proven experience and passion for working in Youth Theatre, and the ability to MD a main stage production whilst developing the skills and confidence of young people.
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Attending weekly sessions to teach vocal technique and musical numbers to young people
- Liaising with a production team to ensure a cohesive artistic vision
- Attending all rehearsals and performances
- Creating a positive working environment of mutual respect for all parties
- Having the musical numbers ready for performance by w/c 2nd November 2026

Total Fee Payable: £2,500.00
Terms:
This is a Freelance position. Postholders will need to be in possession of, or willing to obtain, PVG Registration. The post-holder must maintain adequate Public Liability Insurance and shall produce evidence of this prior to commencing this engagement. Adequate Liability shall provide cover for not less than £5,000,000 (five million pounds) per claim for each policy.
Person specification:
- Proven experience in working with young people
- Proven experience in MD role for medium to large scale theatre productions
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise and work to strict deadlines
- A genuine interest and passion for the role of Youth Theatre
- Full clean driving licence preferred
