Post title: Maintenance Operative

Hours of duty: 20 hours per week – Monday – Friday (TBC, core hours to be worked between 09:00 - 17:00)

Rate of pay: Β£13.85 per hour

About us: Falcon Support Services provides supported accommodation and community projects to those that are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or vulnerable in the community.

Purpose of the job: To provide efficient and effective maintenance support to the organisation across Falcon Support Services.

  • To observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties and ensure that instructions specified by technical consultants, contractors and manufacturers are adhered to.
  • To ensure the removal and correct disposal of refuse and larger items.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintenance
    • To maintain lighting systems replacing where necessary minor parts such as tubes, bulbs, fuses starters and diffusers, in accordance with safe working practices.
    • To arrange to clear blockages, remove foreign matter from sinks, toilets, drains, kitchen grease traps etc. and clean up spillages as required.
    • To ensure that gullies, drains etc. are kept free from debris and that the buildings and grounds are litter free.
    • To be responsible for ensuring clear and safe pedestrian access to all public accessible buildings particularly in adverse weather conditions (e.g. clearing snow, gritting etc.)
    • To dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic manner ensuring that it is available for collection as required.
    • To undertake porterage tasks as required including setting up and clearing away furniture.
    • To undertake handypersons duties as directed by the management team, including:
      • Painting and Decorating – as required
      • Joinery - First line maintenance of fixtures and fittings
      • Basic plumbing duties
      • Internal Glazing – Remedial action after break-ins
      • Repairs - plastering and filling holes.
      • Repair/make as new window frames as required.
      • Collect and deliver donated furniture as requested.
      • Small construction work as agreed with your line manager.
    • To monitor stock levels of consumable items such as grit, light bulbs/tubes, locks and arrange to replenish supplies in accordance with current procedures.
    • To maintain appropriate records including maintenance jobs, health and safety checks, and fire checks as required.
    • To report emergencies in the case of faults with gas, electric and water supply to the relevant Project Manager.
    • To attend to, where necessary, personnel visiting the site such as contractors.
    • To carry out grass cutting and some grounds maintenance where necessary.
    • To comply with the requirements of Health and Safety, other relevant legislation and Falcon Support Services policies.
    • To understand and comply with Falcon Support Services equal opportunities policy.
    • To take responsibility for completing all requirements within timeframe as directed by the Health and Safety Manager and/or Accommodation Manager.
    • To ensure that all required checklists are completed for all duties.
    • To take responsibility for continuous improvement in service delivery and working practices.
  • General
    • To implement and adhere to Falcon Support Services policies and procedures as well as any specific local procedures.
    • To develop team spirit and co-operative working across staff team.
    • To undertake any additional tasks and/or duties as deemed necessary.
    • To undertake/attend any training and/or meetings as required by the job role.
    • To promote a positive image of Falcon Support Services and the service, working as part of an integrated team.
    • Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety policies are implemented effectively.

    Mandatory Requirements:

    • Must be over the age of 18
    • Willingness to undergo a satisfactory enhanced DBS check
    • Have access to a vehicle for business purposes
    • Hold a valid driving licence

    • Have tools to complete maintenance works
