An established main contractor with a strong pipeline of work is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Project Manager / Bid Manager to join their Midlands-based preconstruction team.
This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of the preconstruction and second-stage bid process on major projects, working across a diverse range of sectors and frameworks.
The Role
Reporting into the Preconstruction Manager, you will be responsible for project managing the bid process from initial enquiry through to handover, ensuring bids are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard. You will lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams while maintaining strong client relationships throughout the preconstruction phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing two-stage and negotiated tenders with project values ranging from £10m–£100m
- Leading and motivating bid teams, including estimating, design, MEP, planning and commercial professionals, as well as external consultants and supply chain partners
- Developing and implementing robust commercial and bid strategies
- Managing client expectations through formal and informal reviews, building strong and collaborative relationships
- Coordinating inception and stakeholder workshops to fully understand client objectives and value drivers
- Monitoring progress, identifying risks and opportunities, and implementing mitigation strategies
- Ensuring sustainability objectives are embedded into project strategies
- Driving best practice, technical excellence and continuous improvement within the preconstruction team
- Supporting a seamless transition from preconstruction through to construction delivery
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience managing the preconstruction or bid process on complex construction projects
- Strong technical understanding gained from a background in Operations, Planning, Commercial, Design or Estimating
- Confident leader with the ability to manage diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Commercially astute with excellent communication and client-facing skills
