An established main contractor operating across the Midlands is currently seeking an experienced Estimator to join their preconstruction team. With a strong secured workload and a healthy pipeline of projects over the next 2β3 years, this is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and growing business.
This is a hybrid role, combining office-based work in Birmingham with flexible remote working.
The Role
As Estimator, you will be responsible for producing accurate build costs for a range of construction projects across multiple sectors. Working closely with the wider preconstruction team and supply chain, you will ensure cost plans are robust, compliant and aligned with client requirements, programme constraints and current legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Producing accurate cost plans in line with project scope, client requirements and statutory obligations
- Collaborating with the preconstruction team to support successful tender submissions and project conversion
- Developing cost plans through design gateways up to target price stage
- Advising design teams and clients on affordability and cost implications
- Identifying cost risks and value-engineering opportunities, proposing practical solutions
- Managing and completing detailed take-offs to SMM7 / NRM2 / building quantities standards
- Supporting design change control, tracking cost impacts through the RIBA stages
- Preparing comprehensive cost information packs at handover, including comparisons, bills of quantities, tender books and quotations
- Capturing and incorporating design and consultant fees into tender summaries
- Carrying out cost assessments on alternative design solutions to inform final budgets
Candidate Profile
Essential:
- Proven experience delivering framework and two-stage estimating projects
- Experience across a range of construction methods
- Strong cost control, time management and quality focus
- Ability to accurately interpret drawings and technical specifications
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills
- Valid CSCS card
Desirable:
- Relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC / NVQ4 or equivalent)
- Construction-related degree
- Experience using Conquest Estimating or similar systems
- Experience taking off quantities to SMM7
- Working towards or holding MCIOB and/or RICS accreditation
