Summary:

• LPN: Under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as with their State Practice Act. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) assists the RN with assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The LPN is responsible for documentation of their care including interventions, outcomes, and patient/family education. They collaborate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care.
• RN: The registered nurse (RN) is a professional nurse under the supervision and direction of the department manager/director. The RN works within the state defined scope of practice and adheres to department and hospital policies/procedures and regulatory requirements. The Acute Rehab RN utilizes nursing process for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patients. The care delivered is individualized and goal directed. The RN is responsible for the supervision of delegated tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups: Neonate (birth – 28 days), Infant (29 days – less than 1 year), Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years), Adolescent (12 years – 18 years), Adult (18 years – 65 years), Geriatric (over 65 years).
• Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages. Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviours. Provides necessary safety measures. Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.
• Competent use of the nursing process to assist the RN in assessing priorities, formulating, implementing, evaluating and adapting the interdisciplinary plan of care to ensure quality of care is delivered.
• Maintains timely and accurate documentation of care provided to ensure quality care and the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
• Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Acute Rehab Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed.
• Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Demonstrates willingness to identify and/or assume activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department.

Job Requirements:

• EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
• CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary from the State of Nebraska required. Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention program obtained within six full months from date of hire required.
• Previous Experience Requirements: Previous clinical experience preferred.
• Skills/Knowledge Requirements: Language Skills – Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language required.
