We are seeking an experienced hands-on AWS DevOps Engineer to join the LCST Programme team. As part of a high-performing Agile team, you will design, implement and support secure, scalable cloud infrastructure using a tailored SAFe Agile SecDevOps Scrum process. You will apply DevOps best practices, cloud-native design principles and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to drive automation and continuous delivery across environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage source code with GIT, including pull requests, branching strategies (Trunk-based, GitFlow) and collaborative version control workflows.
- Design and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, covering EC2, ECR, ECS, ECK, ASG, VPC, RDS, Load Balancers, Lambda, IAM, ports, R53 and other services.
- Provision, configure and maintain secure, scalable cloud environments using Terraform and Ansible.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins, automating build, test and deployment across multiple environments.
- Write and maintain automation scripts in Bash, Python and PowerShell to streamline operational workflows.
- Use Docker for containerisation and apply orchestration best practices; manage configuration with Ansible.
- Manage secrets and access control using Vault, IAM policies and other tools to secure credentials.
- Apply AWS security best practices: encryption, patching, monitoring, least privilege, and compliance requirements.
- Implement backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies for data protection and business continuity.
- Deploy robust monitoring and logging solutions such as CloudWatch to ensure reliability and proactive incident response.
- Participate in Agile development teams, translating business requirements into technical solutions and contributing to sprint planning, retrospectives and daily stand-ups.
- Design scalable, resilient and cost-effective cloud-native solutions meeting availability and performance objectives.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Configure routing, traffic management and load balancing, including NGINX and AWS-native tools.
- Apply structured release and change management processes, including governance, rollback strategies and version control.
- Support Java application environments and deployment considerations where relevant.
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset, continually enhancing delivery pipelines, infrastructure and development practices.
- Design and manage SNS topics for event-driven architectures, integrating notifications with Lambda or external systems.
- Utilise Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) to support Agile delivery, documentation and CI/CD management.
- Manage Active Directory and ADFS for identity and access management, group policies, SSO and cloud authentication integration.
Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience in a programming language such as Python, Bash or PowerShell.
- Experience with Redhat operating system and Windows administration.
- Experience in AWS, Azure or another cloud provider.
- Experience with containerised solutions.
- Experience supporting application troubleshooting.
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform.
- Configuration management with Ansible (or similar tools).
- CI/CD pipeline experience (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Bamboo or equivalent).
- Automation experience using any relevant tools.
Desired Skills
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or equivalent certification.
- Proficiency in Terraform, AWS CDK or CloudFormation.
- Experience with Ansible for configuration management.
- Strong scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- ITIL Foundation Certification or experience with ITIL-based environments.
Clearance Requirements
- BPSS pre-screening required to start.
- Clearance level: SC.
- Must be a UK citizen and based in the UK for the duration of the contract.
- Must have or be able to obtain a UK SC clearance.
Compensation
£47,600.00 – £61,000.00 per annum (range is a general guideline only).
