A leading Organisation is looking to appoint an experienced Lead Architect to join their well established but rapidly expanding Manchester based Tech Hub. The role will contribute in the building of an integrated architectural function. The focus is initially on technical design but will grow to work functionally with and on solutions for the wider business as the organisation continues to grow in a global marketplace.
As they continue to scale and modernise their core platform, there is a need to grow and expand the architectural design and governance of the platform. With complexity comes the need to define, design and work with the Software Engineers on delivery to ensure the platform is fit for the future and is scalable today. As the team grows so will the architectural function, which you will lead, working in a matrix management way – where the role will lead a community of practice in architecture with the team embedded in the Product teams.
Job Requirements
What does the opportunity look like day-to-day?
- Part of the Engineering Team: The first task is to drive the design for the next generation of the relevant parts of their platform. This means moving parts of the platform’s functionality from the existing hosting mechanism to a new more modern architecture.
- Continue to guide the Product & Engineering teams in making appropriate architectural and technical decisions and trade-offs. The platform will never stand still and often will be changed to meet a dynamic and changing marketplace. You will be involved in discussions to meet the functional and non-functional expectations, whilst ensuring best practice and security is built in.
- Their cloud vendor is Azure, and the technology is mainly Microsoft based, however they are keen to ensure that the right products are utilised moving forward.
- Contribute to governance frameworks and form (and then maintain) high-quality architectural documentation across the Architecture Repository.
Stakeholder management:
The organisation delivers products and bespoke solutions to companies around the world. Often this involves 3rd parties as they integrate to build a connected system.
What you will bring to the team:
- Experience with delivering end to end technical projects within complex multi-customer environments.
- Practical experience of Agile delivery.
- Practical experience of modernising Products and their technical estate.
- Awareness of the latest Software and Cloud engineering practices.
- You’re comfortable working with a mixed estate, where not all products are at the same point in their lifecycle.
- You’re an effective coach and mentor, able to guide and support teams in varied scenarios to raise performance standards across the organisation.
- You thrive in a CI/CD environment and embrace a ‘build it, you run it’ culture, promoting ownership, accountability, and quality.
- You bring strong software delivery experience, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality, reliable, and market-leading software.
- You’re skilled in stakeholder management at all levels — providing clear, honest communication about where things stand, not just where you want them to be.
- You make pragmatic decisions, balancing ambition and realism while managing risk and mitigation effectively.
- You have a collaborative and coaching mindset, fostering teamwork, empowerment and professional growth across the delivery and business analysis functions.
