Job Description
We invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Fairmont Southampton as our new Director, Learning. The Director, Learning will be responsible for the strategic planning, design, execution, and evaluation of all learning and development initiatives at Fairmont Southampton. This role ensures that colleagues (at all levels) have access to high-quality training, career development pathways, and professional growth opportunities while fostering a culture of continuous learning and service excellence consistent with Fairmont and Accor standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the resort’s Learning & Development strategy in alignment with the People & Culture and business objectives.
- Conduct annual and ongoing Learning Needs Analyses (LNA) to identify gaps, opportunities, and department-specific training requirements.
- Build a structured annual learning plan covering mandatory, brand, operational, service, leadership, and compliance training.
- Partner with department heads to integrate learning goals into their departmental strategies.
Training Program Design & Delivery
- Design, develop, and deliver impactful training programs using blended learning methods (classroom, on-the-job, e-learning, coaching).
- Facilitate Fairmont and Accor brand-standard programs, including service culture, Safety, Guest Experience, and orientation.
- Create training materials, SOP guides, presentations, and digital learning content tailored to hotel needs.
- Ensure that all programs support luxury-service standards and drive continuous improvement in performance and guest satisfaction.
Onboarding & Colleague Experience
- Lead all aspects of the new-hire onboarding experience, ensuring an inspiring introduction to Fairmont Southampton and Accor culture.
- Develop and deliver Orientation and other early-tenure programs to enhance engagement, performance, and retention.
- Maintain accurate training records, compliance reporting, and LMS systems to ensure alignment with audit and brand standards.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Support leadership capability through tailored programs, coaching, workshops, and skills-focused development sessions.
- Develop succession plans and career-pathing tools in partnership with Talent & Culture leadership.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to supervisors and managers to cultivate a learning-focused leadership culture.
- Implement evaluation tools to measure training effectiveness, learning outcomes, and overall impact on colleague performance.
- Monitor compliance training to ensure all regulatory, brand, and safety requirements are met.
- Continuously improve learning programs based on feedback, performance trends, guest insights, and operational needs.
- Stay current with industry best practices, adult-learning techniques, and Accor’s global learning offerings.
Partnerships & External Relations
- Maintain partnerships with Bermuda College, Workforce Development, and other local institutions to support career development initiatives.
- Liaise with approved training vendors to source specialized workshops or certifications when needed.
- Represent the hotel at community events, career fairs, and workforce development initiatives when relevant.
- Work with other hotel departments to ensure that the learning and development strategy is aligned with the hotel's overall goals and objectives.
Qualifications

- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, Training, or HR — ideally within luxury hospitality or service-driven industries. Proven ability to design training content, facilitate workshops, and manage property-wide learning initiatives.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field. Professional certifications in L&D (e.g., CPLP, ATD, CIPD, Coaching Certifications, Instructional Design) are considered strong assets. Expert knowledge of adult-learning principles, instructional design, and facilitation. Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage audiences at all levels. Excellent organization, time management, and project-planning abilities. High emotional intelligence and the ability to influence without authority. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and digital learning tools. Strong strategic thinking, data-driven decision making, and ability to link learning to business outcomes.
