Fairhurst is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Inverness office. The Role
In this senior position, you’ll take a lead role on technically challenging projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams while supporting the development of junior engineers in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead and deliver UK‑based structural engineering projects in line with UK Building Regulations and relevant design standards.
- Undertake structural assessments and inspections of new and existing buildings (steel, concrete, masonry, and timber).
- Carry out detailed analysis and design using industry‑standard software including Tekla Structural Designer and Tedds.
- Produce high‑quality drawings, calculations, reports, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all outputs are accurate, compliant, and aligned with client requirements.
- Project Management
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring programmes, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate work packages, resources, and deliverables.
- Contribute to project planning, risk management, and efficient workflows.
- Maintain clear project records in line with Fairhurst’s quality systems.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead coordination with design team members to deliver integrated solutions.
- Engage professionally with clients, contractors, statutory bodies, and stakeholders.
- Represent Fairhurst at meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
- Communicate clearly and confidently to support excellent client service.
- Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Graduate and Project Engineers.
- Support the professional development of junior staff through structured feedback.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and high‑performing team culture.
About You
Qualifications
- Degree (BEng / MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered (CEng), Incorporated (IEng) or working towards Professional status with ICE or equivalent institution.
Experience
- Strong UK consultancy experience at Senior Structural Engineer level.
- Proven track record across sectors including commercial, residential, retail, industrial, and healthcare.
- Confident working with Eurocodes and UK design standards.
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent report writing, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- High attention to detail and commitment to technical quality.
- Strong leadership and collaborative mindset.
