Role Overview – We are looking to appoint an Engineer to join our Marine team, this role will be based in our Glasgow office whilst supporting the team in our Newcastle office on a full‑time, permanent basis. This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of engineers and technicians on a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects within the marine environment.
The Marine Engineer will contribute to the design, assessment, and delivery of marine structures and coastal infrastructure, supporting the technical and project management aspects of marine engineering work. The role involves producing high‑quality technical outputs, undertaking inspections, preparing design documentation, and supporting successful project delivery in line with agreed budgets, timescales, and standards.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, the Marine Engineer will help maintain strong working relationships and uphold high standards of quality and compliance. The successful candidate will take an active role in design meetings, site visits, and technical reviews, while contributing to the development and continuous improvement of processes, knowledge sharing, and best practice across the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical & Design
- Design and assess a variety of marine structures.
- Prepare high‑quality technical outputs using engineering analysis tools, design software, and AutoCAD.
- Review designs, drawings, and documentation prepared by colleagues or external parties to ensure compliance with design standards, best practice guidance, contractual obligations, and client expectations.
- Produce clear, accurate technical reports, calculations, and supporting documentation.
- Carry out site inspections, surveys, and assessments to inform design decisions.
- Project Management
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of marine engineering projects in accordance with agreed timescales, budgets, and technical requirements.
- Attend design meetings, progress meetings, and site visits as required.
- Prepare, issue, and manage technical project information—such as calculations and drawings—in line with internal and project‑specific standards.
- Support business development activities through preparation of project‑related documentation and maintaining awareness of new opportunities.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise professionally with clients, contractors, local authorities, and other designers.
- Provide clear technical advice and guidance to support client objectives and project delivery.
- Contribute to building and maintaining strong working relationships that enhance the reputation of the marine team.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all work complies with relevant Health & Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations, and other applicable codes of practice.
- Maintain a strong focus on quality assurance and consistency of technical output.
- Apply sound understanding of construction contracts and terms of appointment when engaging with clients and stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues of all levels, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture.
- Support knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and best‑practice initiatives across the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years’ post‑graduate experience, ideally in marine or civil engineering.
- Experience contributing to the design and assessment of marine or civil structures.
- Experience preparing technical reports, drawings, or calculations.
- Experience attending design meetings, site visits, or inspections.
- Experience liaising with clients, contractors, and local authorities.
- Understanding of construction contracts and terms of appointment.
- Exposure to business development activities or contribution to bids/proposals.
