We are excited to invite applications for the position of Graduate Civil Engineer at our Dundee office. As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will work in a supportive environment where you will receive guidance from experienced directors and a dedicated team of engineers and technicians. This position is designed to help you develop your skills and knowledge in civil engineering whilst contributing to a variety of projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects across the commercial, retail, residential and industrial sectors, supporting the delivery of infrastructure solutions to a high standard. All graduate engineers work under the direct supervision of our highly experienced directors and collaborate with a dedicated team of engineers and technicians. Successful candidates will benefit from education, training and mentoring support to enable them to work towards Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). This qualification is globally recognised and signifies a mark of expertise. We are also committed to supporting your further professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical & Design: Design and development of infrastructure projects for commercial, retail, residential and industrial sectors including SUDS drainage systems and roads to adoptable standards. Carry out relevant technical analysis utilising design software and AutoCAD. Participate in design, project and site meetings and carry out site inspections. Prepare, issue and manage technical project information, including calculations, drawings and models, ensuring consistency and accuracy throughout all documentation.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with team members to ensure project goals are met on time and to a high standard. Manage project tasks whilst adhering to agreed budgetary limits and timelines.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with statutory bodies such as Scottish Water, Local Authorities and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency. Develop and maintain good relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders. Communicate key information in a professional manner to offer advice and guidance on matters relating to your work.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure all work is prepared accurately and consistently in line with relevant standards and project requirements. Support the production of technical documentation and contribute to maintaining quality across project deliverables. Work with consideration to agreed project budgets, timelines, risk management procedures and health & safety requirements.
  • Leadership & Development: Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge through work-based learning and self-study. Engage positively with mentoring, training and professional development opportunities. Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive work environment aligned with Fairhurst’s ethos and values.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Qualifications: Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: This role is suitable for a recent graduate or someone at an early stage in their civil engineering career. Any relevant placement, internship or project experience in civil engineering or infrastructure design would be advantageous.
  • Skills & Attributes: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail. A proactive approach to learning and developing technical knowledge.
