The Role
FairHeat has an established graduate programme and is now in the eighth year of recruiting graduates. The graduate programme is a two-year structured scheme with rotation through business different areas where you will work on designing, optimising and making sure our clients’ heat networks are delivered to the highest standards. You will also have the opportunity to work on both new and existing heat networks at the building and city-scale. The programme is focused on developing technical competencies, as well as the overall consulting engineering tool kit.
The primary route to develop skills is through project work and a proactive approach is taken to ensure that Graduate Engineers get a broad exposure to the different types of work over the two-year graduate programme. This is achieved through a series of rotations around the different teams at FairHeat to ensure you understand every part of our business and how we work together.
The graduate programme is challenging, with substantial amounts of time on site and it is expected that Graduate Engineers will be proactively engaging with clients on projects from day one. While you will be introduced to challenging projects at an early stage, FairHeat offers a very supportive environment with close mentoring and guidance throughout your career. The programme offers graduates a fast-track to develop expertise in a new and quickly developing industry where there is a huge demand for knowledgeable and competent engineers.
FairHeat’s graduate programme has a successful track record to date. Over 90% of the engineers that joined as graduates are still working at FairHeat with many of them now at Associate or Senior level within the business, leading departments and teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Making sure our clients heat networks are delivered to the highest standards, including reviewing designs and specifications, working with clients to provide robust heat network specifications, conducting site inspections, and carrying out heat network commissioning testing.
- Optimising the performance of existing heat networks, including undertaking site audits, analysing heat network performance data, and identifying opportunities to improve performance.
- Designing new or retrofit building heat networks, including developing heat loss models and sizing calculations, producing drawings and specifications, and supporting contractor pricing and site works mobilisation.
- Designing new district heating systems, including heat mapping and feasibility design, technoeconomic modelling, and detailed design of district heating energy centres and heat networks.
Requirements
- Studying or have recently completed a Masters-level (MEng) Chemical or Mechanical focused engineering degree.
- Strong aptitude for learning new skills and high levels of initiative.
- Good communication skills.
- Good data manipulation, interpretation and visualisation skills.
- Passion for playing a role in decarbonising the UK energy sector.
- Right to work in the UK.
